Structural Access & Campus Safety Rides

Breadcrumb

The Student Accessibility Services (SAS) team recognizes that Whittier College’s campus is marked by rolling hills and historic architecture, which is why SAS partners with Facilities and Campus Safety to facilitate access for students with temporary or permanent medical conditions and disabilities that impact physically moving around campus.

For students with conditions where stairs present a barrier to access, SAS works with Facilities and the Dean of Academic Planning & Associate Dean of Faculty, to ensure that the student’s courses are held in accessible buildings and on accessible floors. To facilitate the timely implementation of accommodation, such students are asked to apply for priority registration and to confirm their class schedule listed on My.Whittier with a SAS staff.

Students with conditions where the campus layout presents a barrier to access may be approved for a mobility escort around campus. Students should contact SAS to schedule a meeting to discuss eligibility for this accommodation.

Approved students are added to a call list provided to Campus Safety.

Please note: A 15 - 20 minute wait is generally expected between a student’s call and the escort’s arrival.

The College reserves the right to update these policies at any time, as needed.
