Whittier operates local chapters of national honorary academic and leadership societies. Members of these organizations are selected based on criteria such as scholarship, service, and leadership.
Theta Alpha Kappa (TAK)
The department inducts outstanding students in the spring semester of each year into the national Religious Studies Honor Society, TAK. The initiation ceremony features a communal meal and merriment at the home of a faculty member. Inductees must have maintained a 3.3 GPA in at least 12 units of coursework within Religious Studies, as well as a 3.0 overall. The society is encouraged to conduct programs of interest for the larger community.
