Photography and Videography on Campus

Whittier College allows visitors to take photographs on campus grounds. Photography, however, should not disrupt the academic environment and therefore is not allowed inside buildings or classrooms. Any member of the public or organization wishing to take photos for broadcast or public use must contact the Office of Marketing & Communications at 562.907.4277.

Commercial photography or filming is coordinated through the Office of Conference Services.

Media Release Policy

Whittier College takes photos and makes videos of students involved in a wide variety of College activities throughout the school year for inclusion in/on our website, social media channels, admissions and fundraising materials other various digital and print media. The materials and the photos, videos, and quotations included in them (the “Materials”) are used solely by Whittier and solely for college-related purposes, and are not sold, licensed, or transferred to anyone else for any other purpose.

Whittier may post identifying information such as name, class year, major, graduation date, and hometown, but never email address, address, or family members’ names. No special compensation is provided to any individual included in images taken at Whittier events. Whittier does not contact individuals to notify them if or when their images is used by the College.

Images and videos taken in public spaces and/or at public events do not require authorization for publication. A student's presence in or around College facilities and/or properties, as well as at off-campus College-sponsored events, constitutes consent to the capture and/or use of a student's image and/or voice by Whittier College and waives any claims or rights, whether in law or in equity. 

Students may opt-out of the College's media authorization policy by contacting the Office of Marketing & Communications at publicrelations@whittier.edu
