Bio

Kathy Barlow has been a tenured member of the faculty since 2013 and she teaches courses in sport management, sport sociology and motor learning and control.  Her teaching experience runs the gamut from high school to college and before coming to Whittier College, she was the Athletic Director and head women’s basketball coach at Louisiana State University at Eunice.  She has been involved with sports her entire life and obtains great joy finding sport business-related internships for her students.  Her research interests are focused on interactive and experiential types of pedagogy that will enhance the student experience.

Honors

2017 Harry W. Nerhood Award for Teaching Excellence. Awards Setting high standards, the ability to stimulate both enthusiastic and creative thought, fairness in the evaluation of student work, creation of a quality environment for learning the classroom, and availability for dialog and counseling students.
 
2015 Outstanding Student Organization Advisor Award (KNS Club). A student organization award from the Dean of Students Office.
 
2015 Whittier Area School Administrators Award. Appreciation for the dedication and support of the students of our community-- Making a difference in the lives of children.

2013 Presidential Award for Inspiring Faculty-Student Collaborations on Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity. This prize celebrates and applauds a professor who inspires students through URSCA.
 
2012 Marilyn Veitch Award. For outstanding contribution to Whittier College and dedication to the students.
 
2009 Associated Students of Whittier College. Certificate of Achievement in recognition of her exemplary service to the student body and to the ASWC Senate above and beyond call of duty.
