A student enrolled at Whittier College assumes an obligation to conduct themselves in a manner compatible with the College's function as an educational institution.
As such, there are a number of academic requirements, policies, and procedures that have been carefully developed in order to ensure all students have an equal chance to succeed. Each student is expected to follow these academic standards throughout the duration of his or her years at Whittier.

Whittier College adheres to the principles on academic freedom and tenure, as stated by the American Association of University Professors: "Institutions of higher education are conducted for the common good and not to further the interest of either the individual teacher or the institution as a whole. The common good depends upon the free search for truth and its free exposition."
