Alumna Erin Clancy ’07 was recently included in the Diplomatic Courier’s “Top 99 under 33 Foreign Policy Leaders” list. This honor recognizes Clancy as one of the “brightest and most innovative minds of the time” and hails her ability to design a solution to a critical global change. Clancy currently works as the political-military affairs officer at the U.S. Embassy Muscat, Oman. Previously, she was the vice consul at the U.S. Embassy Damascus, Syria. Clancy was forced to leave the country due to political unrest; however she was awarded two State Department Meritorious Service Awards in recognition of her work in Syria. “My hope is that all nations value the protection of civilians in armed conflict above any other calculation of national interest,” said Clancy when asked about her vision for foreign policy in the 21st century.
During her time at Whittier, Clancy was a member of the Thalian Society, Model United Nations, Black Student Union, Poet Democrats Club, as well as the Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian, and Allies for Diversity. After graduating Whittier as a political science major Clancy pursued her master’s degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.
