Requirements for the Major in English
English majors select one of three areas of emphasis, each with its own specific requirements:
Requirements for the Major in English with an Emphasis in Literature
- Any 100-level ENGL
- ENGL 210: Critical Procedures
- ENGL 313: Editing and Publishing Emerging Media
- One class in each of 3 Genres (Fiction, Poetry, Drama)
- One class in pre-1900 literature
- One class in post-1900 literature
- ENGL 300: Junior Seminar
- ENGL 410: Senior Seminar
- 36 credits total with at least 18 at the 300-level or above
Requirements for the Major in English with an Emphasis in Creative Writing
- Any 100-level ENGL
- ENGL 210: Critical Procedures
- ENGL 313: Editing and Publishing Emerging Media
- 3 CW workshops (at least 2 genres; at least 1 300-level)
- One class in pre-1900 literature
- One class in post-1900 literature
- 410 Senior Seminar
- 36 credits total with at least 18 at the 300-level or above
Requirements for the Major in English with an Emphasis in Applied Media Studies
- ENGL 103: Better Living through Media Literacy
- ENGL 140: Intro to Media Studies
- ENGL 210: Critical Procedures
- ENGL 313 Editing and Publishing Emerging Media
- 2 Praxis Courses
- One class in pre-1900 literature
- One class in post-1900 literature
- 410 Senior Seminar
- 36 credits total with at least 18 at the 300-level or above
Requirements for the Minor in English
A minor in English requires any 18 credits in English.
