Barraza has been at the College since 2008 and previously served as director of communications.
In her post, she serves as Whittier’s chief marketing and communications representative and directs the communications vision and strategy. Barraza develops and manages the execution of strategic marketing and advertising campaigns for the College and is responsible for all marketing, advertising, and promotions of College initiatives including enrollment management, alumni programs, fundraising initiatives, new revenue generation programs, and athletics, among others.
During her tenure as director of communications, Barraza oversaw a comprehensive marketing study of the College, led two redesigns of the website, implemented a standard visual identity for Whittier, steered the development of the College’s social media and multi-media presence, and collaborated with the Office of Admission in the most recent redesign of Whittier’s admission material and messaging platform. Barraza’s efforts have helped increased public awareness of the College and its status as a Hispanic Serving Institution.
Prior to Whittier, Barraza worked for more than a decade as a radio journalist and producer. She also spent time as a grant writer and program developer with an educational non-profit based in East Los Angeles. She graduated with a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley and has an M.S. from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
