Congresswoman Linda Sánchez (D), who currently represents California’s 38th district—an area that includes Whittier—returned to campus to speak about her career path, why she got involved with politics, and stressed the importance of voting. “A choice in Washington, D.C. can impact your life here,” said Sánchez. Sánchez currently serves as the Vice Chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fifth-highest ranking position in the House Democratic Leadership. She is also the first Latinx woman elected to a leadership position in the U.S. Congress, and the highest-ranking Latinx person in the House of Representatives. The Richard Nixon Republican Club invited first-time candidate Joshua Scott (R), who is vying for the congressional seat in California’s 32nd district. Scott is running against incumbent Congresswoman Grace Napolitano (D). Scott, aged 25, is the youngest congressional candidate this year.
