The occasion highlights the achievements and personal success of graduating seniors in the spirit and traditions of Latino cultures. During the ceremony, participants will don the traditional cap and gown to be formally recognized by President Sharon D. Herzberger.
Prieto’s primary research focuses are immigration, police and Border Patrol, and social movements. He graduated summa cum laude from Whittier with a B.A. in sociology and earned a master’s degree and Ph.D. in sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. The event, which serves as a kick-off for Whittier’s Commencement Week activities, will begin with a performance by Mariachi Alma de California and will include remarks from graduating seniors Brandy Barajas, Gaby Gil de León, Cristian Perez, and Angelica Santiago. Following the ceremony, guests will join the graduates at a reception in the Upper Quad of campus featuring a performance by the Colombian duo Edgar and Lucy.
