The team exited the NCAA Championships Division III West Regional Saturday night as they were shutout 4-0 by Pacific Lutheran.
The week prior, the Purple and Gold took on the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens as they competed for the number one spot. The Poets went into that match ranked fourth place in the conference with a 12-8 record but rose up to the top spot defeating Pomona. Both teams attempted six goals each, but it wasn’t until the end of the match that Leah Kolek ’18 scored the first and only goal, giving her the title of SCIAC Tournament Most Valuable Player.
This victory automatically qualified the Purple and Gold for the NCAA Division III National Championships. This is only the second time in the program’s history that the Whittier College Women’s Soccer team has qualified for the championship.
