Ricardo Diaz ’93 is bringing his vision to life in Uptown Whittier. The local chef has signed a lease agreement to open a brewery on the ground floor of the historic Nixon Plaza, where President Richard Nixon’s ’34 first law office was located.
“We are going to create different kitchens and food concepts that will constantly evolve and change,” said Diaz in an interview with the Whittier Daily News. The building is registered as a National Historic Landmark and owner John Hsu, the CEO of STC Management Inc., wanted to work with a tenant who would bring the iconic building back to life. Hsu elected to work with Diaz because of his ties to the Whittier community.
Diaz hopes the restaurant will attract new customers to the area “who respect artisanship and craftsmanship.” This will be the first craft brewery in Whittier and is expected to open next year.
