After serving more than 30 years in education, East Whittier City School District Superintendent Mary Branca ’92 has announced that she will retire at the end of the 2016-2017 academic year. Branca completed her master’s degree and administrative credential at Whittier College. Her career began as a substitute teacher and she later served as a teacher, learning specialist, assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent of personnel services, co-superintendent, and finally, superintendent.
“It has been an absolute honor to serve the children and families of this school district,” Branca said in a recent Whittier Daily News article. “This community has become my family, the place where I raised my children and where I met parents, teachers, staff, administrators, and a board of education dedicated to helping our children success. However, after a long and fulfilling career, I am excited to be able to enjoy more time with my family, including my five grandchildren.”
