Samantha Vega ’18 was recently named a recipient of the Caring.com student-caregiver scholarship. She was among over 1,400 student-caregivers who applied for the grant in the fall of 2015. Based on a compelling 1,500-word essay on caring for her 72-year-old grandmother, Samantha received a $1,500 grant that can be applied to her tuition or her books.
Vega is majoring in political science with the hopes of creating policies that will assist caretakers and those they care for. She would like to open up avenues to create positive change through policies that would help students in similar situations as hers.
The #CaringScholar Grant is a financial aid scholarship for students attending an accredited U.S. university or college while also caring for an aging or ailing loved one. Caring.com has announced a third round of grants for May 2016 which are due May 31, 2016.
