Access and academic language used to teach English Language Learners are topics of great interest to educators, particularly those in California. Teachers want to ensure that immigrant children receive the same challenging academic experiences and meet the same achievement standards as their English-speaking peers.
Enter Whittier College's Institute for Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Teaching (ICLRT) whose purpose is to provide research‐based and practitioner‐oriented professional development services, tools, and resources for K‐12 systems and teacher education programs serving ELLs and diverse student populations.
The Institute will host its first conference entitled "Access and Academic Language for English Language Learners and Standard English Learners in the Age of the CCSS" which will be held at the Ruth B. Shannon Center for the Performing Arts on August 22.
