Whittier College's undergraduate scholarship was on full display at the Annual Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity (URSCA) Day on April 25. More than 90 Poet scholars in 14 majors presented their original research completed during the summer 2014 and the 2014-15 academic year.
The conference is designed to highlight the undergraduate research produced by Whittier College students and provides them with an opportunity to present original work to their peers, faculty members, and the Whittier College community. Students presented their work during the all-day conference through individual and poster presentations, creative arts explorations, and student panels.
For many students, participation in the URSCA presentation day represents the culmination of their senior project work and satisfies a capstone experience requirement Whittier College calls Communication IV in Whittier's liberal education program.
In addition, the senior art exhibits took place in Wardman Gym, Mendenhall Gallery, and the CI gallery. In Villalobos Hall, students majoring in psychology presented their undergraduate research along with students from other institutions as part of Whittier Undergraduate Research Conference) WURC. Finally, the Center for Engagement with Communities (CEC) held their Amy Biehl Foundation Human Rights Program. In the latter event, local high school students presented their human rights research projects and had the opportunity to hear from keynote speaker, Linda Biehl, the executive director of the Amy Biehl Foundation.
