Poet Pride Powers Successful Giving Tuesday

December 10, 2025

Whittier poet athleticsThe Poet community came together in a big way on Giving Tuesday last week to support student success and athletics. Nearly 500 Whittier College alumni and friends contributed $216,931, demonstrating once again their firm belief in Whittier’s mission and momentum.

This year’s results reflect a remarkable surge in both participation and impact as past donors returned to the fold and new donors made their first-ever gifts. Donor numbers increased considerably from last year’s total of 280, and total giving more than doubled, making this the largest Giving Tuesday in College history.

This year’s Giving Tuesday celebration marks another exciting chapter in Whittier’s story, falling on the same week as the announcement of a historic second investment from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott.

Funds raised during Giving Tuesday will directly benefit two areas central to the Whittier experience: Poet Athletics and the Whittier Fund, which supports scholarships, student programs and experiential learning opportunities through flagship initiative Whittier Works

“We are honored that so many alumni, parents, and supporters chose to step forward to support Whittier and further our impact on Giving Tuesday,” said Vice President of Development Delite Travis. “Every gift, large and small, is an investment in and a vote of confidence in our inspiring students and the futures they are building. Thank you for believing in them and in the mission of Whittier College.”

The success of Giving Tuesday and other recent giving campaigns reflect a rising tide of enthusiasm for Whittier’s direction and commitment to expanding access, opportunity, and social mobility.

“Because of the generosity of our community, Whittier remains a place where students discover their potential, gain the tools needed for successful careers and meaningful lives, and become leaders who make a difference in their communities,” said Travis.
