“By working together, we are opening new doors of opportunity for students and ensuring they have the academic and financial information and support necessary to reach their full potential,” said President Kristine Dillon ’73, Ph.D. “This partnership is a testament to our dedication to nurturing the next generation of leaders."
In addition to fostering a collaborative relationship between the faculty and staff of both institutions to guide student success, the initiative reduces financial barriers. WUHSD students are automatically considered for a Whittier College John Greenleaf Whittier scholarship amount ranging from $20,000 to $36,000.
Meanwhile, students who complete the International Baccalaureate Diploma are awarded a $36,000 four-year, renewable scholarship. Students who complete FAFSA or California Dream Act forms are provided a four-year, renewable award of $1,000 in financial aid to students. Students are also automatically awarded the four-year, renewable Gateway Scholarship of $2,500.
Lastly, the Whittier Civic Scholars Program will support a cohort of 10 newly admitted students from WUHSD and other students who live in the City of Whittier with a $5,000 scholarship from the City of Whittier, plus a $5,000 matching scholarship from Whittier College.
“This partnership with Whittier College is a tremendous step forward in supporting our students beyond high school,” said Whittier Union High School District Superintendent Monica Oviedo, Ed.D. “By creating a clear and supported pathway to higher education, we are empowering our graduates to achieve their academic and career goals while strengthening the bond between our institutions.”
WUHSD Schools include California High School, Frontier High School, La Serna High School, Pioneer High School, Santa Fe High School, Sierra Vista High School, and Whittier High School.
