The 2024 issue “Catharsis” was recognized by the National College of Teachers of English for being a “Superior” collegiate arts and literary magazine.A year after The Greenleaf Review won the second-place Outstanding Literary Arts Journal Award from the national English honor society Sigma Tau Delta, it earned its second national award.

The 2024 issue “Catharsis” was recognized by the National College of Teachers of English for being a “Superior” collegiate arts and literary magazine.

The magazine is edited, created, and published exclusively by Whittier College students. Following the win, the publication has an exciting new theme and a new advising professor in the ranks. For the past five years, The Greenleaf Review has been produced and published in Professor Joe Donnelly's English 312 class, Editing, and Publishing Emerging Media. This year, Professor Michelle Chihara joins Donnelly as a co-instructor, bringing her previous experience as the editor for the Los Angeles Review of Books

“I’m thrilled to bring my editorial experience to a mentor position for this exciting Whittier publication,” Chihara said. “I think there’s a lot of energy and possibility in the room.”

The theme for this upcoming issue is “Fever Dreams,” and submissions are open. Is this current world a mere dream, or is this a nightmare? Do you want to be lucid, or maybe you want to surrender control? Do you want to go deeper, or do you want to wake up? Submissions can include prose, poetry, creative nonfiction, journalism, art, photography, and, new to this year, short films/screenplays and music.

To submit your work, please send the related documents — not PDFs — to thegreenleafreview@gmail.com with a brief description of each submission that includes the medium and an answer to the following question: What has happened to you that felt like a fever dream?

"We're so excited to be the team this year,” said Editor-in-Chief Paige Meyer-Draffen. “But we are going to need the help of the Whittier College student body to keep the fame and mission going.”

Each person can submit a maximum of 10 works. Submissions will be selected blindly. Works selected for the issue will be eligible for a cash prize.

The deadline for submissions is March 15.
