Before coming to Whittier College in 2023, Henry was a tenured Professor of Management at Meiji University in Tokyo, Japan, at their Graduate School of Global Business. Prior to Meiji, he was an Associate Professor of Marketing and Creative Leadership at Nihon University in Tokyo. Alongside his university work, Henry has personally taught over 11,000 executives from Fortune Global 500 companies on four continents over the past 20 years. Training programs have included executive development programs in global leadership, multicultural teamwork and marketing innovation. Prior to his career in academia, Henry was a global marketing strategy and innovation executive for over 20 years with multinational companies like Sony Pictures, Mitsubishi and Kimberly-Clark, while based in the US, Japan, Brazil, the UK and the Netherlands. His last corporate position was as Chief Marketing Officer of a Japanese global industrial equipment company. His work in business innovation while at Mitsubishi has been featured in the international business press (including the Financial Times). His creativity methodology, transdisciplinary analogy (TDA), has been highlighted in numerous best-selling business books published in six languages. He has an AB from Harvard College in Japanese literature (with a specialty in Kabuki theater), an MS from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, and an MBA from INSEAD (in Fontainebleau, France) in marketing. He was a postgraduate research student in social psychology at the University of Tokyo and is trilingual in English, Japanese and Portuguese. Henry has also been a TV newscaster as well as performer on educational TV programs in Japan. He has a home recording studio where he enjoys making cover versions of 50’s and 60’s popular music as well as traditional Japanese enka songs. At Whittier, he teaches courses in International Business, International Marketing, Sustainable Development, Innovation Through Design Thinking, and Social Media Marketing.
