The collaborative relationship between the faculty and staff of both institutions will support high school graduates' academic and social transition to college life by guaranteeing admission for El Rancho students. Eligible students will have access to the College’s financial aid and scholarship opportunities that make it one of the top performers nationally in social mobility.
At the event, El Rancho graduate Antonio Saavedra shared the impact Whittier has had on his education. The fourth-year student is currently majoring in kinesiology with a minor in history. Though he applied to multiple colleges, he chose Whittier because of its proximity and small class sizes. He said he’s been able to receive private school education for state university prices, having doors opened with physical therapy internships, research, and more.
To be admitted, El Rancho seniors must meet academic requirements, present a writing supplement, submit official transcripts and other documents, and complete the online application process through the Common Application or apply through the Instant Decision process.
On top of other scholarship considerations, admitted students are automatically awarded the Gateway Scholarship, and students who complete the FAFSA or California Dream Act receive a four-year, renewable $1,000 award.
Students are encouraged to apply early this fall to ensure consideration for the fullest range of scholarship opportunities.
“We are excited to partner with El Rancho High School to provide guaranteed admission and streamline access to higher education for their qualified graduates,” President Kristine Dillon '73 said. “This initiative reflects our commitment to making college more accessible and affordable, empowering local students to achieve academic success and social mobility. We look forward to welcoming these promising students to Whittier College and supporting them in their educational journey.”
