Incoming Freshman Helps Others Navigate the College Admissions Process

Adrian Proshuto '18For incoming Poet Aidan Proshuto ’18, choosing the right college was crucial. After completing his heavy share of research, Proshuto came to find a “perfect fit” in Whittier College.

His experience prompted him to create a website, TheAdmissionsProcess.com, that would improve the college search process for other prospective college students.

"I wanted to help my peers find colleges that they would enjoy and thrive in,” said Proshuto who saw much room for improvement among other college search sites. “The other sites say, ‘These are the perfect schools for you,’ but they don’t tell you why.”

Proshuto's innovative website includes more specific search criteria that not only accounts for location, school size, and major, but also desired lifestyle and personality. His website also provides full explanations for why certain recommended colleges match criteria and why certain colleges don’t.

“I used all sorts of sources and cross-referenced them,” he said. “If a certain college comes up strong for psychology on credible sites, I included it."

Proshuto’s website is currently undergoing beta testing and will continue to improve and expand--adding to the 600 colleges currently in its database.

For the moment though, the New Jersey native is eager to begin his studies at Whittier College where he plans to major business administration with a minor in film studies.
