The club recently received the Student Organization Excellence Award in honor of its work to engage Poets.
“It means a lot to us that our efforts have been recognized,” said outgoing club president Anh Tran ’25. “It’s reflective of our commitment to always show up for our campus community.”
Tran, a biology major who also won the Outstanding Officer of the Year Award, relaunched the club in 2022. Although she describes herself as shy at the time, the opportunity strengthened her leadership skills.
“The club gave students like me a sense of belonging and a sense of home,” Tran said. “I really wanted to replicate that experience for others, and that's why I restarted ASA.”
The Asian Student Association holds events at least once a month, ranging from cultural celebrations to talks on multiracial identity and intersectional wellness. A sample of the gatherings it hosted this year centered around Lunar New Year, Filipino Heritage Month, and Mid-Autumn Festival as well as conversations about decolonizing mental health and board game nights with boba tea.
Tran said they want the spectrum of activities to spark interest and bridge the gaps between the diverse student body.
“We hold events for all of our allies and all of our communities,” Tran said. “We really welcome anyone on campus to come.”
