Felicia Delgadillo ’21 and Christian Renteria ’21 traveled to Sacramento earlier this month to meet with state legislators and share their stories about how Cal Grant funding has impacted them.
The Whittier representatives were part of a group of more than 100 undergraduate students and administrators from institutions who visited the state capitol as part of the 2019 Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities (AICCU) Day at the Capitol. The annual Day at the Capitol focuses on protecting educational opportunities for students and preserving funding for Cal Grant Awards, which provide grant dollars to more than 27,000 low-income students in California.
Associate Dean for Student Life Deanna Merino-Contino visited the capitol along with the students. During their day, they also had the opportunity to meet with recent graduate Amer Rashid ’17, who is currently a legislative aid for the office of Assemblymember Eloise Gomez Reyes.
