Whittier College's soccer forward Madison Shipherd '16 was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-West Region 1st Team. In addition, Shipherd was named to the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference 2015 All-SCIAC 1st team as voted by the league's head coaches.
To be named to a NSCAA Scholar All-West Region Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout his or her career; start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team; and be nominated by an institution that is a current NSCAA College Services member.
Shipherd, who was in the running for SCIAC Player of the Year, has earned All-SCIAC recognition four years in a row and this year she put together one of the most impressive single season performances in the program's history. In 2015, she started in all 17 games and was Whittier's engine at the forward position as she drove the Poets to a 9-5-3, 6-5-3 SCIAC record missing out on a playoff berth by just a game.
