Professor Scott discusses fantasy ‘SNL’ casting

Everyone has their favorite comedians on Saturday Night Live. But what about casting dream guest roles?

Recently, it’s become more common for people to deliberate about which celebrity should play which public figure on the popular skit show. Yahoo! Entertainment reporter Kelsey Weekman noted that fans were delighted to hear Maya Rudolph will reprise her role as Vice President Kamala Harris, but disappointed when Steve Martin turned down the offer to play her running mate Tim Walz. 

Weekman talked to Whittier College Social Psychology Professor Christina Scott about the fascination with impersonations.

“Choosing which actors will satirize the political candidates gives us a small sense of control in an otherwise uncontrollable situation, plus the anticipation of some much-needed comic relief,” Scott said.
