Ruben Solorza, a member of the Poet cross-country and track and field teams, took home All-SCIAC recognition and received the Ray Adkinson Character Award, which is determined by his SCIAC peers. Solorza double majored in Environmental Science and Psychology and was a research assistant in the education department. He had the opportunity to present his research in how college students respond to certain questions and exams at the National Association for Research in Science Teaching Conference in Texas. At Whittier, Solorza founded the Sustainability club, was a member of MEChA and worked in the Office of Equity and Inclusion.
