Poets Break Records on New Field

team running on trackThe Whittier track and field team hosted the second Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) meet of the spring 2018 season. The meet included Whittier, Claremont Mudd Scripps, Pomona-Pitzer, and Cal Lutheran.

Taking place on the newly renovated Aubrey Bonham Track and Memorial Stadium, this year’s event was the first meet hosted by Whittier College since 2009, when the Purple & Gold hosted the SCIAC Multi-Duals.

Before the meet started, the Poet seniors were recognized for the time and effort they have put into the program.

As the meet went on, the Poet women stood out and made significant marks on the board. Hannah Duran-Wright ‘21 broke the school record in the triple jump while Caitlin Greenup ‘21 placed second in school history in the same event. Piper Lowinger ‘20, Tiazha Hogue ‘21, and Danielle Guardado ‘20 ran all-time top 10 marks in the 200-meter race. Lowinger moved to second place in the 100 hurdles with this race and Christina Prieto ‘18 is now sixth all-time in the hammer throw.

Lastly, the women’s four by four relay team ran the fourth fastest time in school history to win the meet.
