The Weingart Center for Career and Professional Development hosted Straight Outta College, a week-long program to encourage career exploration and preparation for students. Throughout the week, the career center presented interactive career development activities to help students get ready for today’s competitive job searches.
A career and internship fair took place during the week where students had the opportunity to meet and network with employers from 55 different companies, agencies, and non-profit organizations. Poets came dressed to impress with resumes in hand ready to talk to representatives. Some were looking for internships, others for permanent career opportunities. Employers in attendance included JP Morgan Chase, US Mortgage Corporation, County of Los Angeles, New York Life Insurance Company, Robert Half, and Techtronic Industries, among others.
“I really want to find a job after I graduate and I came to the career fair to see if there are any career or internship opportunities,” said art major Indigo Halverson ’17.
The week concluded with a workshop on how to ace a virtual interview and a visit to the media company, Shout! Factory owned by alumnus Richard Foos ’71.
