“We are exceptionally fortunate to have a broad network of talent and support which makes this school so special,” said Whittier College President Herzberger during the ceremony. “In addition to the teachers we have at Broadoaks, whom we revere for their dedication and their expertise, Whittier College faculty play an instrumental role in the education of our youngest students. And our teachers, whether they’re Whittier College faculty or Broadoaks faculty themselves, they really have an unwavering commitment to education and I think we should applaud them again.”
Attendees had the opportunity to walk through the new area, which features a sandbox, a multitude of education toys, and a shaded area with fans and lights, among other features. It also includes new fencing, a privacy screening, and a security gate.
Passionate about the project, Koong also helped create the flower and vegetable gardens at Broadoaks. These gardens are tended to by students and teachers who give away half of all the produce and flowers that they grow to the local community.
