Whittier College is just one facet of the local community, and I’m glad to see both the College and Whittier as a whole thriving with exciting new collaborative events and continuing partnerships.
The College has a social media pilot program aimed at prospective and current students on Instagram that helps keep a pulse on what’s happening both on campus and in Whittier. We’ve been getting strong results in terms of engagement as our talented Poets create compelling content for everything from the Whittier Film Festival to Uptown Whittier Farmer’s Market held Fridays.
In terms of campus events, on the horizon is Sleeping Beauty, opening Oct. 17 at the Ruth B. Shannon Center for Performing Arts. Directed by Katie Liddicoat, the production will entertain audiences from many local Whittier area elementary children as well as our own student, faculty, staff, and community audiences. We look forward to offering a first live theater performance for some of our younger attendees!
But don’t forget that Homecoming Weekend is right around the corner, Oct. 10–12. On top of the usual festivities, please attend my State of the College address the afternoon of Friday, Oct. 10. We’ll be recognizing the deserving recipients of the Poet Awards so you will want to join us in celebrating them.
I hope to see you on campus soon,
Go Poets!
