Whittier College Supports DACA

September 4, 2017

Dear Whittier College Community:

Last week, Whittier College joined more than 40 Quaker-founded schools and colleges in sending a message to President Trump in support of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and its recipients. Since its inception in 2012, DACA has helped hundreds of thousands of students achieve the American dream and in turn they have contributed to this country.

In light of recent news that President Trump is considering an end to the program, we write to reaffirm Whittier’s unconditional support for all of our immigrant, refugee, and undocumented community members, and those with DACA status. And as we stated in the Poet Student Protection Policy released last spring, Whittier College stands in solidarity with students who seek sanctuary, as a reaffirmation of our commitment to the values upon which Whittier was founded, including respect for the individual regardless of gender, religion, ethnicity, or national origin. Here, in this diverse and inclusive community, we encourage the social justice that stems from understanding and respecting each other.

Sincerely,

Jim Brown '71
