Whittier Represented in World Lacrosse Championships

Seth Mahler The 2018 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championships are currently under way in Israel with six Poets taking the field representing Israel, Greece, England, and Mexico.

Former Poet players Seth Mahler ’10 and Max Kaufman ’16 are playing for Israel and Matt Hernandez ’16 is representing the Mexican national team. Sam Russell '12 and Thomas Brook '14 are representing England and Whittier’s head lacrosse coach Nicholas Marks is representing the Greek National team as a midfielder.

"It is a tremendous honor to be on this team and have the opportunity to represent Greece in the FIL World Championships,” said Marks. “I cannot put into words what it means for me to represent my family and heritage on the international stage. The entire experience is a dream come true."

The FIL is the international governing body for men's and women's lacrosse and provides responsive and effective leadership to support the sports' development throughout the world. The FIL currently has 60 member nations and holds the Men's World Championship, widely considered the sport's pinnacle competition, every four years.
