Senior Spotlight: Ezdras Meraz-Lerma '24 inspires through art and language

Ezdras Meraz-Lerma '2You might say creativity and collaboration come naturally to Ezdras Meraz-Lerma.

A poet and hobby musician who plays piano and guitar, he also tutors Spanish and has served as an admissions ambassador for Whittier. After graduating with his degree in English and Spanish with an emphasis on creative writing, he intends to pursue teaching so he can pass on his love of reading and narrative to the next generation of students. 

We asked him a few questions about his time on campus and plans for the future. 

What's next for you after graduation?

Up next is grad school so that I can obtain my master's in English to be a community college professor!

What’s your favorite Whittier memory?

The DMEC kite event was one of the most beautiful days I've seen on campus, and it was my first time flying a kite!

What was your favorite class at Whittier?

Latin American Literature, because I got to read works that really changed my view of the world.

What’s your favorite spot on campus?

Founders Hill is a beautiful place to enjoy the sunset while reading or studying.

If you could give your first-year self some advice, what would it be?

Treasure each moment of the present.
