Sports as an American Religion

As we find ourselves in the midst of the hockey, football, basketball, and baseball seasons it can appear that the country has become a bit "sports obsessed." Professor of religious studies Joe Price, author of Rounding the Bases: Baseball and Religion in America, commented on this topic for the Chicago Tribune. "Just as the Roman Catholic church has its incredible array of saints, sports heroes get revered for a career of accomplishment," said Price.
