Whittier College is listed as one of the nation's best institutions for undergraduate education, according to The Princeton Review. Whittier is featured as one of the best 381 colleges and universities in the 2017 edition of the flagship college guide.
Only about 15% of America’s 2,500 four-year colleges are profiled in the book which includes detailed profiles of the colleges with rating scores for all schools in eight categories based on The Princeton Review's surveys of students attending the colleges.
In its profile on Whittier College, The Princeton Review praises the College for its good breadth of classes and the one-on-one interaction with dedicated faculty members. According to the guide, the campus' small size makes it easy to make friends and leaves enough time for extra curricular activities and outside interests for students.
Whittier students surveyed for the book are quoted extensively for the review. Some of their comments about faculty include "professors are engaged, love what they do and truly care about the success of their students." When asked about campus life, students said that the pool facility is new and many "hang out on the decks to cool off in the heat." The students also mentioned the proximity of hills to campus which are "good for running or hiking."
In a "Survey Says” sidebar in the book's profile on Whittier College, The Princeton Review lists topics that Whittier students surveyed for the book were in most agreement about, including "students are happy and friendly", “great library,” “diverse student types on campus," and “campus newspaper is popular.”
