Cheryl Boone Isaacs '71 was re-elected Tuesday to her fourth and final term as president of the Oscar-granting Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).
The academy's rules dictate that presidents cannot serve more than four consecutive terms. Boone Isaacs is the organization's first African-American president and the third woman to lead the preeminent movie-related organization, comprised of more than 7,000 men and women working in cinema.
Under the Whittier College alumna's presidency, which began in 2013, the academy has diversified its membership. This past June, the organization extended invitations to more than 600 new members, 46 percent of whom were female and 41 percent people of color.
Boone Isaacs also heads CBI Enterprises, Inc., where she consults on film marketing efforts. She visited Whittier in 2014 and shared real life advice with students in an open forum at the Ruth B. Shannon Center for the Performing Arts.
