Members of OMEP-Whittier College recently presented a check to the local charity Shelter’s Right Hand (SRH) in the amount of $1,261. These proceeds will go a long way for SRH, an auxiliary to the Women's and Children's Crisis Shelter. The funds were raised through the annual Jog-a-Thon sponsored by OMEP-Whittier College and The Broadoaks School.
Members of OMEP-Whittier College are activists who promote the health, rights, well-being, and education of the world’s children, especially those enduring poverty, war, abandonment, or natural disaster.
Each year, Whittier College students and students at Broadoaks nominate worthy local, national, and global charities serving children and families and decide how to divide the proceeds from the Jog-a-Thon event. In 2014, more than 250 Broadoaks students and 70 Whittier College students participated in the Jog-a-Thon raising more than $12,000.
Other charities that received donations from the 2014 Jog-a-Thon include Smile Train, Feeding America, the Regional Food Bank, and the UNICEF TAP Project.
