Mark Kozhaya '17 will compete in the elite National Bowl Game, where he could catch the attention of NFL scouts.
The National Bowl kicks off Sunday, December 4, at Daytona Beach Municipal Stadium. The annual post-season all-star game consists of top players from non-Football Bowl Subdivision schools and is coached by professional coaches, including Mike Stock—formerly of the Green Bay Packers—who is set to return for the 2016 game.
Scouts from the NFL, CFL, and AFL have attended the games past to get to know some of the best players from smaller schools, and could return to this year's bowl. All 32 NFL teams also receive and review the National Bowl game film.
The news comes a week following Kozhaya's 2nd Team All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection. An offensive tackle from Downey, California, Kozhaya is now the ninth Poet lineman to be selected to an All-SCIAC team in the past 11 years and continues to be the only lineman to receive accolades since 2011, when Tyler Portman was named 2nd Team All-SCIAC.
