Participating students were able to experience hands-on learning from the pros and see what a professional sports studio is all about. “Being able to see a professional atmosphere and how it’s run definitely sheds some light on where we want to go as a broadcasting group,” said Franey. “We’re making big strides and now we know where we want to go.”

The tour included a visit to the graphics department, the green room, wardrobe rooms, and control rooms. WCSN members were also invited to watch part of the taping of the program NFL Game Day as a conclusion to the tour. “My favorite part was going to the staging area and seeing them broadcast their shows because, with my own broadcast group, it’s cool to see how professionals do it,” said Nathan Landau ‘17. “Being able to see their attitudes and their approach to doing a professional broadcast is cool to see first-hand, and I think that is pretty rewarding.”

Students also had the opportunity to meet with former players and analysts on the show, Marshall Faulk and Michael Irvin. This valuable experience served as a learning tool for participating students to continue to strive for a career in sports journalism.
