Whittier College is a community of students, faculty, staff, and administrators dedicated to teaching, learning, service, and scholarship.

To ensure compliance with federal, state, and local civil rights laws and regulations, and to affirm its commitment to promoting the goals of fairness and equity in all aspects of the education program or activity, Whittier has developed policies and procedures that provide for prompt, fair, and impartial resolution of allegations of protected characteristic discrimination, harassment or allegations of retaliation.

The College’s Title IX and Nondiscrimination Policy ("the Policy") applies to all faculty, staff, administrators, students, volunteers, vendors, independent contractors, visitors, and individuals employed, studying, living, or working at Whittier College. For procedures addressing allegations of Title IX and Nondiscrimination Policy violations:

Scope of Policy

The College’s primary concern is student and employee safety, and the core purpose of this policy, is the prohibition of all forms of discrimination. This Policy is only applicable to alleged incidents that occur on or after August 1, 2024. For alleged incidents of sexual harassment (now called sex-based harassment under federal regulations) occurring prior to August 1, 2024, the policy and procedures in place at the time of the alleged incident apply. Applicable versions of those policies and procedures are available from the Title IX Coordinator or on the Sexual Misconduct Policy page. 

This Policy applies to all faculty, employees, students, and other individuals participating in or attempting to participate in the College’s program or activities, including education and employment.

This Policy prohibits all forms of discrimination on the basis of the protected characteristic(s), and may be applied to incidents, to patterns, and/or to the institutional culture/climate, all of which may be addressed in accordance with this Policy.

Applicability

Incidents of discrimination, including sex-based discrimination and harassment, that occurred on or after August 1, 2024 are subject to Whittier’s 2024 Title IX and Nondiscrimination Policy and related procedures.

Incidents of discrimination, including sex-based discrimination and harassment, that occurred prior to August 1, 2024, are subject to the policies and procedures in effect at the time.

Role of Title IX Coordinator

The Title IX Coordinator has the primary responsibility for coordinating the College efforts related to the intake, investigation, resolution, and implementation of supportive measures to stop, remediate, and prevent discrimination, harassment, and retaliation prohibited under this policy.
