Types of Resumes

• Targeted: A customized resume focused on your specific employment opportunity that is relevant to the job. Most employers gravitate towards a targeted resume that reflects a similarity in the position in which you are applying. Targeted resumes are widely used, especially in today's new economy.
• Combination: Combines chronological and functional resumes while focusing on experience and skills.
• Reverse Chronological: All experiences and job titles are listed in reverse chronological order (current to past). This type of resume is rarely used in today's job market.
• Functional: Experience and skills are normally listed in paragraph form with emphasis on skills. This type of resume is rarely used in today's job market.

Cover Letters

This one-page document should not repeat your resume, but instead, tell the story as to why you are applying and why you would be a good fit. This is an excellent spot for language relating the job description, company culture, and shared values. Be sure to focus in on 2-3 aspects of your skill set.
