Orientation is a comprehensive program that assists new students, their parents, and families in making successful transitions into the Whittier College community. 

Sunday, January 12 

11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Move-In • Campus Courtyard

Student living on campus will pick up their room keys at the Campus Courtyard. 

3 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Campus Tour • Campus Courtyard (Optional)

Students interested in getting familiar with campus can join the Campus Tour. 

Monday, January 13

7 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. Breakfast • Campus Inn (Optional)

Continental breakfast is available for all Orientation participants.

9:30 a.m. - 9:45 a.m. Check-In • Villalobos Hall

Students will check in and get relevant materials.

9:40 a.m. - 10 a.m. Welcome to Whittier • Villalobos Hall

Our team is excited to meet with you and offer a welcome address.

10 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Academic Success • Villalobos Hall

The Center for Advising & Academic Success (CAAS) and faculty members will share an introduction to academic resources (Moodle/MyWhittier).

10:30 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. Wellness at Whittier • Villalobos Hall

Join the Counseling Center and Peer Health Educators in a session with wellness activities.

11:20 a.m. - 11:50 a.m. Being in Community at Whittier • Villalobos Hall

Our Poets will get an introduction to community standards better to understand their transition to campus regulations and expectations.

11:50 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Lunch • Campus Inn

Students will get complimentary lunch at the campus dining hall.

12:30 p.m. - 1 p.m. Office of Equity & Inclusion Introduction • Villalobos Hall

The Office of Equity and Inclusion will present an interactive workshop introducing their department resources.

1 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. Financing College • Villalobos Hall

Meet with a representative from the business office and financial aid to better understand how to finance your education.

1:30 p.m. - 2 p.m. Whittier Works • Villalobos Hall

The Center for Career and Professional Development will introduce poets to resources available, including Handshake, interviewing practice, and the on-campus employment search.

2 p.m. - 3 p.m. Poets Lead • Villalobos Hall

Develop SMART goals after creating a vision board and learn about the engagement opportunities at Whittier & tips to manage time.

3 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Closing • Villalobos Hall

We will offer affirmations and closing remarks as well as have room for questions.

Tuesday, January 14

The following offices will be open for office hours. Students can drop in anytime from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Optional)

  • Health Center (Domestic Vaccine Health Clearances)
  • Counseling Center (Mental Health Screening for Athletes)
  • Campus Safety (Student ID or parking permit)

8 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. Breakfast • Campus Inn

Breakfast will be available at the Campus Inn. Please be sure to have your passport and I-20 with you, as it will be needed later. 

9 a.m. - 9:45 a.m. Check-In & Immigration 101 • Hoover 100

The Office of International Programs will provide information on how to maintain your status.

Please note: Be sure to bring your passport and I-20 for check-in. 

10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Assigned Groups • CAAS (First Floor of Library)

In assigned groups, students will take their placement exam, visit the health center, or learn more about life at Whittier and class registration. 

Health Center • Group A

Students who have registered for classes prior to their arrival will meet with the Health Center.

Registration • Group B

Students who have completed placement tests on Monday or prior to their arrival will learn how to register for classes.

Placement Tests • Group C

Students who have not taken a placement test will do so with CAAS.

Life at Whittier •  Group D

Students in Group D will learn about the student experience at Whittier.

11:40 a.m. - 1:10 p.m. Assigned Groups • CAAS (First Floor of Library)

In assigned groups, students will take their placement exam, visit the health center, or learn about life at Whittier and class registration. 

Health Center • Group B

Students in Group B will meet with the Health Center.

Registration • Group C

Students in Group C will learn how to register for classes.

Placement Tests • Group D

Students in Group D will meet with CAAS for the placement exam.

Life at Whittier • Group A

Students in Group A will learn about the student experience at Whittier.

1:10 p.m. - 2 p.m. Lunch • Campus Inn

Grab your lunch and sit in your mentor groups. 

2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Assigned Groups • CAAS (First Floor of Library)

In assigned groups, students will visit the health center, learn about life at Whittier, or register for classes. 

Health Center • Group C

Students in Group C will meet with the Health Center.

Registration • Group D

Students in Group D will learn how to register for classes.

Life at Whittier • Group B

Students in Group B will learn about the student experience at Whittier.

3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Assigned Groups • CAAS (First Floor of Library)

In assigned groups, students will learn about life at Whittier. 

Life at Whittier • Group C

Students in Group C will learn about the student experience at Whittier.
