Khorram focuses on technology as a senior reporter at Yahoo! Finance, her finger on the pulse of rapid changes in artificial intelligence coming out of Silicon Valley and a watchful eye on fraudulent CEOs.
“It's exciting to cover the groundbreaking technologies that have such a big impact on our daily lives,” Khorram said.
One of the most exhilarating times for her was covering the trial of Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes. Khorram broke several exclusives that ran on networks like CNBC, MSNBC, and NBC.
Occasionally, Khorram and her family have been the subject of the news cycle. Her wedding to fellow journalist Tyler Eyre was featured in The New York Times, and in 2020, Khorram penned an op-ed about her grandfather, Parviz Aminiafshar, a high-ranking major general executed during the Iranian Revolution in 1979.
Khorram was drawn to journalism from an early age — the news was always on in her household growing up in Kirkland, Washington, outside of Seattle. She enrolled at Whittier to experience sunny Southern California, and the Whittier Scholars Program allowed her to create her own major in journalism and world affairs.
A storyteller through and through, she launched QCTV on campus to gain experience reporting, shooting, and editing her own videos. She interned as much as possible — landing at CNN when she was just 18 and solidifying her career path. Khorram received the Outstanding Young Alumna Poet Award in 2019 for her work as an Emmy-nominated producer.
“I love telling stories that make people think and bring something to light that hasn't been told before,” Khorram said.
Though she is back on the East Coast after her time at CNBC, some of her fondest memories are still connected to Whittier. One January term, she and her classmates studied abroad in Rome, immersing themselves in the culture. Khorram met some of her best friends through that experience, and they still talk about the trip.
Khorram encourages others to follow her lead and chase their dreams.
“You can do anything you put your mind to at Whittier,” she said. “You just need to look for it.”
