New Associate Dean of Students Ready to Welcome Students

Josh Hartman, Associate Dean of Students, Whittier College campusJosh Hartman, Whittier College's new associate dean of students, has been passionately working this summer to be ready to welcome students back in the fall. Between projects such as the Ettinger Lounge renovation, updating the student code of conduct, and overseeing residence life to name a few, Hartman has hit the ground running at Whittier.

In his role, Hartman will oversee student affairs departments and service areas including housing and residential life, student health, student conduct, and the counseling center. Additionally, Hartman manages the campus-wide students of concern process and collaborates with faculty and staff to provide support network for students in need.

Most recently, Hartman comes to Whittier from Bucknell University, where he served as director of residential education, managing all residential staff, programs, and crisis management for a 3,100-bed housing system, including the oversight of several full time professional staff, more than 100 student staff members, and managed a budget of $1 million.  

During his twelve-year career in student affairs, Hartman has worked at a variety of institutions including The George Washington University, Dartmouth College, and New York University. 

Hartman received all three of his degrees from The George Washington University: a bachelor's degree in philosophy, a master's degree in higher education administration, and doctoral work leading to an Ed.S. degree in higher education administration.
