Poets Connect with the Community and Present their Projects

CEC College ad Community ExpoWhittier College's Center for Engagement with Communities recently hosted its 11th annual College and Community Expo where more than 100 students presented in a poster session their  community outreach projects. 

Through these projects, students connect with a local community partner and work together to solve community problems. More than 30 community partners benefited from the student projects and some of the partners include: the LA Philharmonic, Whittier Historical Society and Museum, Boys and Girls Club of Whittier, and Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital among many others.

In addition to the poster session, the event featured panel by Billie Deihl Distinguished Chair in Music Danilo Lozano and students Maricruz Argueta '17 and Manuel Chavez '19 where they discussed best practices and examples of outstanding community outreach. Finishing the event, Professor Joyce Kaufman, director of the Center for Engagement with Communities presented certificates to recognize students and 12 faculty members who embody exemplary community outreach.

The Center for Engagement with Communities is dedicated to the positive and lasting interaction between the Whittier College campus and the Whittier community. The goal of the center is to encourage students and faculty to become more involved with community-based organizations and for members os the community to spend more time on the Whittier College campus.
