ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Chemistry at Whittier College offers an American Chemical Society-approved program and seeks to educate students in the five disciplines of chemistry:

  • Analytical Chemistry
  • Biochemistry
  • Inorganic Chemistry
  • Organic Chemistry
  • Physical Chemistry

Students gain an appreciation for the nature of molecules in the world around them by learning the theoretical basis for chemistry, as well as having hands-on laboratory experience. In addition, research opportunities under faculty guidance give students the chance to develop a deeper understanding of the scientific process through planning and designing experiments, data collection, and data analysis.

Knowing that excellent teaching combined with small classes give students an optimal environment for learning, the chemistry department faculty is deeply committed to giving students the best education possible.
