Assistant Professor of Kinesiology
Kristyne Wiegand joins the Whittier College Kinesiology department as a biomechanist with a clinical background in sports medicine.
Originally from northwestern Pennsylvania, Wiegnad completed her bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Slippery Rock University. After working at Boeing as an athletic trainer for two years, Weigand earned her master’s and Ph.D. in kinesiology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).
While at UNLV, Wiegand’s degree plans specialized in biomechanics and biostatistics and she taught upper- and lower-division kinesiology courses. She was also heavily involved at the university level with the Graduate and Professional Student Association and the Graduate College. Her research interests are centered around the development and progression of running injuries, and she combines the clinical knowledge gained as an athletic trainer with the technical knowledge of biomechanics to better understand how movement patterns contribute to and are influenced by, the development of running injuries.
Outside of academia, Wiegand enjoys spending time with her husband and two cats and is an avid hiker, camper, and concert-goer.
