Preschool and Elementary Class Openings

Available at Broadoaks Children’s School

The Broadoaks Children’s School at Whittier College is now accepting applications
for a limited number of openings in its preschool and K-6 programs for the coming school
year.

Broadoaks is an accredited private school offering before- and after-school care, as
well as a challenging academic curriculum that meets or exceeds the state standards in
all content areas.  Broadoaks students have an outstanding performance record on
the Stanford 9 achievement test.

Broadoaks is a nationally and internationally recognized demonstration school noted
for its developmentally based teaching practices.  The curriculum emphasizes basic skills, as well as critical thinking in all content areas.  Broadoaks’ teacher-student ratios are
1:15 or better in all elementary classrooms.

Most of the teachers hold a master’s degree in education and all have strong
preparation in child development, as well as in the subjects they teach.  The individualized teaching approach builds upon each student’s strengths, interests and learning styles.

Broadoaks students also participate in a variety of activities on the Whittier College campus.  They participate in learning activities in the college art studios and science laboratories and use the physical education facilities.  They attend concerts and
performances on campus as well.  In addition, Broadoaks students may participate in
such before- and after-school activities as student government, German Club, sports,
music, school newspaper, Homework Club, Advanced Learners and Safety Patrol.

The date of application is one of several criteria used in the admission process, and
early application is strongly advised. Guided tours of the school are available for
interested parents.  To register for a tour, or to request information and an application,
call the Broadoaks Office at (562) 907-4250.  To use the Internet, contact
