Hansel and Gretel

WHAT: A staged production of "Hansel and Gretel"

WHEN: 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 21

WHERE: The Ruth B. Shannon Center for the Performing Arts at Whittier College
13406 Philadelphia St., Whittier

COST: $8.00 adult / $6.00 child

ADD: The story of Hansel and Gretel--said to be derived from a true German story--has been shown to the public in a variety of different ways, including fairy tale, opera and film. This time around, however, it will be shown in a staged production by the California Theatre Center.

As the story goes, Hansel and Gretel, the children of a poor family, are sent into the forest to gather berries for the family╣s dinner. While in the forest, they encounter a house made of candy. Not being able to resist it, they enter to find an evil witch who has wicked plans for them both. Eventually, the children outsmart the witch and are happily reunited with their forlorn parents.

This cautionary children's play will include a professional cast in authentic costumes and stage setting. Although it will delight children and parents alike, it is not recommended for children under four.
